Katarina Andersson
Born in Vasa, Finland, Katarina Andersson currently lives and works a artist and designer in Stockholm, Sweden.
Her interest lie in semiotics, the relation between materials, objects in relation to space and objects as mediators.
Katarina’s projects extend between sculptural objects and tableware.
She has in addition to commissions for the industry worked with an exclusive production of small series in porcelain and glass.
During 2007-2017 Katarina Andersson was part of the design company HAPPYsthlm, that was founded in a courtyard studio at Södermalm, Stockholm. In 2012 HAPPYsthlm opened it’s first show room/shop in the centre of Stockholm.
HAPPYsthlm chose to work with niched manufacturing industries are still active in Sweden. These are companies that work in an area between crafts and mass production.
HAPPYsthlm was represented in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland,UK, USA, Japan, South Korea.
Katarina has also participated in various ceramics and glass exhibitions, including shows at Centrum Goed Werk, Zulte Belgium, and Museum of Applied Art, Cologne, Germany.
Katarina was for several years engaged as a senior lecturer at Konstfack at the Ceramic and Glass department, where she also led a pilot project in artistic research “Keramiska väggmaterial i offentlig miljö”. She has been involved as a curator and project leader for various crafts projects.
Katarina Andersson is since 2016 a senior lecturer and programme Manager for MA Crafts at HDK-Valand.
Katarina Andersson received her MFA in 1993 from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack (the University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm).
